stuffing is a response to the accumulation of tangible and intangible “stuff,” including cultural expectations around health / ability, body size, weight and shape.

Food journals that meticulously document the timing, kind and amount of nourishment a person consumes are often recommended to people to identify food sensitivities and migraine triggers, as part of nutritional therapy for autoimmune disease and chronic illness, and in programs for weight loss or gain. stuffing documents the artist taking a large pile of accumulated food records and stuffing them into her clothing, sculpting a different body in the process. Viewed at high speed, this action becomes an awkward and humorous dance that speaks to our relationship with our bodies and our “stuff.”

stuffing was screened at the 2017 Photophobia Contemporary Moving Image Festival hosted by Hamilton Artists Inc. and the Art Gallery of Hamilton.
